Fort Myers Beach Boating Skills and Seamanship Program begins in 7 days! 2/16/2010 This last year has been no exception to boating accidents. Boating mishaps occur every day of which most could have been avoided by common sense, education and awareness of boating safety.
Boating Skills and Seamanship begins on February 16th, between 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for 8 sessions. You’ll meet at Lee County Public Safety Building, 15650 Pine Ridge Rd., Fort Myers 33908. (Pine Ridge between Summerlin and McGregor). The program includes topics such as having the proper equipment aboard your boat, tips on trailering, handling your boat, and basics of navigation all with safe boating in mind. You will receive a certificate upon successful completion of the program. Known as "America’s Volunteer Lifesavers", the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary was established by Congress in 1939 to assist the Coast Guard in promoting boating safety. It boasts more than 35,000 members from all walks of life who receive special training so that they may be a functional part of Coast Guard Forces. Auxiliarists assist the Coast Guard in non-law enforcement programs such as public education, vessel safety checks, safety patrols, search and rescue, maritime security and environmental protection and Coast Guard Academy introduction programs for youth. Auxiliarists volunteer more than 2 million hours annually to benefit other boaters and their families. | |
